Chair yoga may not look like your stereotypical yoga, but it is positively yoga! It is a wonderful way for anyone to experience the considerable mental and physical benefits of yoga from the safety of a chair. It's perfect for anyone including people with long term health conditions, anyone in a wheelchair, anyone who may find it difficult to get up and down from the floor, anyone recovering from injuries, or anyone who is just curious to try something new.
I am specially trained in Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga, which is the premier chair yoga training method. This style of yoga really is accessible to all as it offers several options for each pose, all of which are carefully planned to ensure the same physical and mental benefits are received as when the pose is performed on a mat. The idea is that all yoga poses can be performed safely using the chair as an extension of the body rather than as a prop.
